POSTED: Saturday, March 29, 2008

A 19-year veteran Florida Highway Patrolman was seriously injured Saturday morning when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver while making a routine traffic stop in Orange County.

Sgt. Dan Willix remains hospitalized at Orlando Regional Medical Center in the incident, which occurred on Interstate 4 in Orlando, in the eastbound lane at John Young Parkway, just before 1:15 a.m.

The FHP told WKMG-TV that Peter Adolph Ramirez, 31, of Cypress Trace Circle in Orlando, was arrested and booked on charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, DUI, and violation of the move over law. He was being held Saturday in the Orange County Jail.
