JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A recent baby boom at Shands Hospital has exhausted mothers and doctors seeing double, even triple.Over two days this week, the maternity ward at Shands has delivered five sets of twins and one set of triplets.Kimberley Brown, a first-time mother, delivered twin girls this week.
Brown said that even though twins run in her family, seeing two heartbeats on her sonogram came as something of a shock."I was like, 'We're in trouble,'" Brown said. Then there's Andrea Thaxton, whose 17-month-old girl now has three brand new sisters."Oh my," Thaxton said.Thaxton said that her daughters were conceived without use of fertility drugs. "It's a blessing that God has given us, and it's just something that we just have to work through."One child is hard enough, but two or more at a time can be enough to tax any parent's patience. Are they ready?"Here? Yeah!" Thaxton said. "When I got home..."Thaxton, when asked what she's hoping for with her new house full of girls, said, "hopefully controlled chaos."Brown, when asked what she'd do to keep her sanity with the twins, said, "Wow, that's a good question."But, of course, a mother's instincts won out, as Brown continued, "Just knowing how much I love them, and how happy they make me," flushed with pride. Both new mothers were, of course, looking ahead to the future already."Junior, senior prom years, weddings, college... we know it's going to be busy," Thaxton said."It makes me sick to my stomach just thinking about it," Brown said, clearly content to hold her new little girls as long as she can.
