The Couple: Brittany MacPherson And Michael Doss

POSTED: 7:36 am EDT May 16, 2008

The Morning Show, along with bridal shop Alfred Angelo and other local vendors, teamed up to throw an all-expenses-paid wedding for one lucky couple live on television.

More than 100 couples entered but the winners, but Brittany MacPherson And Michael Doss had a story that stood out from all the rest.

Here's the story that won the contest:

"I met my fiancée, Brittany, in high school and were friends long before we ever dated. I remembered her saying once how romantic it would be to be proposed to on Christmas or Christmas Eve. I didn't really understand at the time but after dating her for a couple of years, it was a handy piece of information.

"I thought about proposing at Jacksonvilee Beach Christmas Eve since the moon would be full and Mars would be visible with the naked eye. However, I really wanted something a little more private and secluded. I also thought there might be several others out there doing the same thing. I considered purposing along the river but it just didn't seem romantic enough.

"I also remembered hearing about being able to name a star, but had no idea how to go about doing so. I decided to research it online and after several websites I found that I could register my star through the International Star Registry. In a matter of minutes I had my star. A few days later, the plaque arrived. With a general idea of how I was going to propose I now needed to purchase a telescope and even more importantly an engagement ring.

"At first the only people aware of my proposal plans were my parents. I didn't want to tell anyone until after I had proposed, but I still needed to ask for her fathers blessing in hopes that he would be willing to give me his daughters hand in marriage. He does, after all, have two other daughters! This turned out to be a very difficult task. We spend a lot of time together especially now that we own a house. I tried splitting up during grocery shopping to call he Dad but she would always find me. I tried calling from the bathroom only to have her knocking on the door asking "What are you doing in there?" I even got up during the middle of the night which only led to me having to explain why I was outside in my boxers by myself. It wasn't until she was on the phone with her best friend that I was finally able to call her Dad. It was a quick conversation as I couldn't risk getting caught again.

"Christmas Eve we had Brittany's sister and her boyfriend over. I let them in on what was going on and even made them a part of it. While we were at my parent's house having dinner I had her sister and boyfriend place the plaque wrapped up under the tree and set up the rather large telescope. I then had them attach a card that I made previously. When we got back to our house Brittany was a little confused as to what the telescope was for. She opened the card that said "From Santa". I told her it was part of something that I had planned that night and to dress warm.

"We packed up the telescope, her Christmas present and I had her ring in my pocket. We were set!

"We went driving for about an hour talking about the past year and all we'd done together and how great of a couple we make. We continued driving up Heckscher until we found a secluded beach and dark enough to see the stars. We were all alone on the beach with the full moon reflecting off the water. Our song "The Hook" playing on the stereo. I lined up the telescope on "THE" star and asked her if she knew what that star was. When she told me no, I explained that it was one of the stars in the Aries constellation - same as her sign and to open her present. It was the plaque showing that I had the star's name changed to Brittany Brianne Doss. As I got down on one knee and presented the ring I told her that the star would be named after her if she would marry me. She began to cry, then kissed and hugged me and said yes. We spent another thrity minutes looking at her star before going home.

"We set up the telescope at home so Brittany can look at her very own star anytime she wants and we now have a very special spot that we will be revisiting to see her star again on our two year anniversary of dating which just happens to be March 3rd."
