Camden Grand Jury Indicts 2 For Murders

POSTED: Friday, May 23, 2008

The indictments of two men on murder charges issued this week by the Camden County grand jury reveal details of the killings that police had not released.

Tye Watkins, 22, was indicted on two counts of felony murder in the May 5 shooting deaths of his parents, 47-year-old Thomas Watkins and 44-year-old Cindy Watkins.

Watkins is accused of killing his father and mother in their family home north of St. Marys, then calling 911 to say, “I just killed my parents.”

Watkins was also charged with two counts of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and one count of each aggravated assault, burglary and theft.

The burglary and theft charge is from the theft of the murder weapon -- a .357-Magnum -- from a neighbor's home the day before the killings.

The grand jury also indicted Amos Southall on one count each of felony murder, rape, aggravated assault and possession and distribution of a controlled substance. Southall is accused of killing 21-year-old Michelle Hainley, of Yulee, on Feb. 26 in a room at the Kingsland Ramada Inn.

According to the indictment, Southall raped, beat, then drowned Hainley in the bathtub of the hotel room.

Southall was arrested earlier this by the U.S. Marshal's Service in Miami-Dade County and extradited to Georgia.

In a related case, the grand jury indicted Kristopher Robinson of St. Marys on two counts of distribution of a controlled substance. Police found Robinson driving Hainley's stolen Dodge Avenger after the slaying.

According to court papers, Robinson had provided cocaine, Ecstasy and marijuana to Southall, but was not involved in the slaying.
