Man, Nephew Indicted In Athens Double Slaying

POSTED: Friday, May 30, 2008

An Oglethorpe County grand jury on Thursday indicted a man and his nephew on charges they are responsible for the two-year-old murder of a couple.

Oglethorpe County Sheriff Mike Smith said Therron Johnson, 30, and Randy Lamar Johnson Jr., 22, are in jail on two counts each of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and armed robbery for the July 7, 2006, incident.

Authorities said the two Athens men shot and killed 53-year-old Ronnie Cooper and 39-year-old Vickie Wolford in a mobile home near Arnoldsville that belonged to a friend of the couple.

Family members said the Johnsons did odd jobs for Cooper and plotted to rob him of the $50,000 in inheritance checks he had received just days before he was killed.
