Man Picked Up 'Acting Strange' Dies At Hospital

POSTED: Sunday, June 1, 2008

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating after a 23-year-old man died Sunday afternoon after being taken into custody when deputies said he was walking through a Putnam County neighborhood "acting strange."

Putnam County deputies were called to the 100 block of Johns Road in Bardin, northwest of Palatka, at midday Sunday by a neighbor who believed the man might have been under the influence of drugs.

The deputies said it was obvious that the man -- later identified as Joshua Walton Glisson -- was in need of help, placed him in the back of a patrol car and called for rescue personnel.

Glisson was transported to Putnam Community Hospital, where doctors said he went into respiratory distress and died.

Because Glisson died after being in the custody of Putnam County deputies, the FDLE was asked to conduct the death investigation.
