FHP Expects Busy Weekend Despite Gas Prices

POSTED: Friday, July 4, 2008

Although holiday travel is expected to be down slightly this year because of high gas prices, AAA estimates that more than 2.3 million Floridians will be on the roads this weekend.

The Florida Highway Patrol says it will have extra troopers on the highways to watch for speeders and drunk drivers.

The patrol reported 27 deaths over the 96-hour Memorial Day weekend in late May, including 19 who failed to wear seat belts.

AAA also estimated another 200,000 Floridians will fly over the weekend for their holiday.
