FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. -- One man was killed and another seriously injured after a vehicle left state Road A1A and ended up in the woods.

The wreck occurred about 3:45 a.m. just south of Marineland.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the Honda Civic was traveling south when it clipped a power pole and veered into the woods.

Passenger Benjamin Gabriel Rossie, 24, of Palm Coast, died at the scene. It took rescuers 45 minutes to extricate he driver - Peter Patrick Hamill, 25, of St. Augustine -- from the mangled car. Hamill was transported to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach.

Both lanes of A1A reopened before dawn.

The FHP was continuing to investigate and said charges were pending.
