DCF Confirms Finding Abuse At Camp Tracey
POSTED: Friday, July 11, 2008
BAKER COUNTY, Fla. -- Channel 4 has learned the Florida Department of Children and Families has looked into allegations of abuse in the past and they are continuing to investigate.
The state's child-welfare agency said they have investigated Camp Tracey more than a dozen times dating back to 1989. A spokesman said they verified abuse in three cases and found likely abuse in four others.
Deputies recently arrested two people who worked at Camp Tracey. One of those cases was later dropped, but a second man, John Wilson, is still facing abuse charges.
The pastor in charge of the camp said allegations of abuse are simply unfounded. He contends the campers are making them up in retaliation for being sent there.
