Six Starbucks stores in Duval, Clay and St. Johns counties will be among the 600 closing in the U.S.
The news has shocked some connoisseurs of caffeine in Northeast Florida.
"That sucks because I love Starbucks," said one Starbucks regular.
"That surprises me. It's a very frequented place. I see a lot of people come to Starbucks," said Starbucks customer Ray Horseman.
The Orange Park Mall Starbucks will get the ax along with one store right across the street. Another location on Blanding Boulevard just a couple of miles away will also shut its doors.
The Starbucks at Philips Highway and Baymeadows Road is also on the chopping block as the coffee chain tries to scale down to deal with its slumping stock price.
The fifth and sixth Starbucks locations being shut down are on Forsyth and Main streets and on County Road 210 in St. Johns County.
"Doesn't surprise me … the way things are with gas prices," said one man.
So, what will happen when some coffee junkies' favorite spots close their doors? Some said it wouldn't stop coffee drinkers from getting their daily cup of joe.
"Coffee's addictive. They'll never cut it out. They'll just drink Maxwell House, that's all," said a Starbucks customer.
In Florida, 59 Starbucks locations are expected to shut down with closures beginning this month. For a detailed list of the Starbucks to be shut down across the country, visit
