UPDATED: 10:43 am EDT July 23, 2008

A man and woman were killed and a child was injured in a shooting in a Westside townhouse Tuesday night.

Jacksonville police were called to the 8300 block of Homeport Court just south of 103rd Street about 9:30 p.m. after investigating a report of shots fired.

According to Lt. Pat Ivey with JSO, two adults died and a 3-year-old was shot during the incident.

The child was taken to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center with what police said was a minor injury.

Ivey said one victim was found inside the home and the other was found outside. Police have not said where the child was found.

Neither the victims' names nor the circumstances surrounding the shooting were immediately released. Police said it does not appear to be a murder-suicide. They cannot confirm the relationship between the two adults and the child.

Homeport Court was closed to traffic as detectives conducted their investigation and interviewed potential witnesses.

Police said they are searching for a gunman in the case.

Anyone with information that could help police is asked to call Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
