POSTED: Thursday, July 24, 2008
BUNNELL, Fla. -- The trial of a trucker charged with killing two Flagler College students on Interstate 95 continues.
Miguel A. Leon of Ponte Vedra is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide.
Prosecutors say he slammed his tractor-trailer rig into the back of a Volkswagen Beetle, killing two Flagler College students sitting in the backseat. Eighteen-year-old Jessica Kaufman, and 20-year-old Lindsay Chain died, while two others -- the driver and a person in the passenger seat -- were injured.
During testimony Wednesday, a witness testified Leon braked at least twice before he hit the VW. The witness -- another trucker -- said Leon's truck brake lights come on two or three times and she had to slow down because Leon slowed.
Leon faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
