Miami Taxi Driver Found Shot To Death In Cab

POSTED: Wednesday, July 30, 2008

Police are investigating the death of a taxi driver who was found shot in his cab Wednesday morning.

The shooting occurred shortly before 5 a.m. near Northwest 32nd Avenue and 45th Street.

Miami-Dade police said a report of downed power lines brought officers to the area. When officers arrived, they found a cab crashed against a pole, its driver fatally shot.

Detectives believe the crime started as a robbery. It appeared the driver lost control as the cab traveled west on 45th Street, knocking over a stop sign at 33rd Avenue before coming to a crashing halt against the pole.

The name of the victim, believed to be in his 40s, has not been released.

His death is one of several involving South Florida cab drivers in recent months.
