JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The second practice of a Westside Pop Warner football team ended in tragedy on Saturday.
Officials told Channel 4 an 11- or 12-year-old boy died after collapsing at practice on a field just off Normandy Boulevard.
The boy lost consciousness about 9:30 a.m. during conditioning drills for a peewee league.
Ron Jefford, a board member with the Normandy Athletic Association, told Channel 4 he was there when the boy was rushed to Wolfson Children's Hospital.
He said he assumed the little boy would be OK and was shocked when he heard the boy died.
The identity of the victim and his cause of death were not confirmed.
Jefford said all players were required to have a physical before joining the league.
