Police Investigate 2 Separate Fatal Shootings

POSTED: Friday, September 5, 2008

Two people were killed in two different shootings between Thursday night and Friday morning.

The first one happened shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday in the 800 block of Bert Road in Arlington. Police said a man was found outside of Les Chateaux condominiums. Police said the man -- later identified as 35-year-old Leon Ray Buchanan --was taken to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where he died of gunshot wounds.

Neighbors also reported hearing gunshots and said Buchanan had only lived there a couple of weeks. Police have no suspects.

The second shooting happened in the 2500 block of Lowell Avenue on the Westside just after midnight Thursday. Police said a shooting occurred between two women and a man. A neighbor called 911 reporting the sound of gunshots. When police arrived, they found one woman shot and another with unknown injuries.

Both victims were transported to Shands, where the woman who was shot died. The man was taken to JSO for questioning.

Police said if you have any information on either of these cases, call Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
