The Florida Highway Patrol reports that two motorists were killed in separate wrecks on Duval County roads Thursday morning.

The first occurred about 6:50 a.m. on 103rd Street at Ricker Road on the Westside when troopers said Lolita Garcia, 56, attempted to change lanes and struck a car driven by Oscar Smith, 38. According to the FHP report, Garcia's car began to spin and went off the road, with the driver's door striking a concrete utility pole.

Garcia was transported to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where she died. Smith was not injured.

The right lane of Ricker Road was blocked for more than two hours while the wreck was investigated and cleared.

About 45 minutes later, a 63-year-old truck driver was fatally hurt in a wreck on Heckscher Drive at Eastport Road. Troopers said his tanker truck turned left into the path of a car-carrier.

The driver of the tanker truck, Francisco Garcia, of Hialeah, Fla., was transported to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. According to the FHP report, he was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the car carrier, Richard Osterhoudt, 45, of Jacksonville, was not injured.

All lanes of Heckscher Drive were closed for several hours, with the eastbound lanes opening just after noon and the road completely cleared about 1:15 p.m.
