CRESCENT CITY, Fla. -- An 18-year-old self-proclaimed "skinhead" was arrested Sunday by Putnam County sheriff's deputies investigating graffiti spray painted on a church and a restaurant.
The investigation began just before 11 a.m. Sunday when the owner of Palmeras Restaurant on North Summit Street in Crescent City found swastikas and the words "white power" spray painted on the front of his building.
While the incident was being investigated by the Crescent City Police Department, Putnam County Deputy Chris Gay though he recognized Kent Ryan McLellan in surveillance video provided by the store.
Shortly after leaving the restaurant, Gay passed the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Ewer Road and noticed church members cleaning similar graffiti from the side of their building.
According to the sheriff's office, a swastika and "white power" were painted on the church, as well as "RohoWa," which deputies believe is short for racial holy war.
The deputy contacted McLellan and said he was able to obtain probable cause to arrest him.
According to the sheriff's office, McLellan said he did not like the members of the church because they were always trying to convert him and people at the restaurant would make fun of his clothes when he walked by.
McLellan was booked into the Putnam County Jail charged with one count of felony criminal mischief to a house of worship and one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief for the graffiti at the restaurant.
