Police: Teen Admits To Killing Man Over Homosexual Comments

Victim Found Dead In Car At Cemetery

POSTED: Friday, September 26, 2008

A 19-year-old who turned himself in to police on Thursday says he killed a man he believe was spreading rumors about homosexuality.

Police said Hector Sanchez is accused in the shooting death of 24-year-old Levi Rollins, whose body was found inside a car parked in a Westside cemetery in July.

Detectives were called to Riverside Memorial Park on Normandy Boulevard on July 25 by employees who saw a man's body slumped over in the back seat of a car that had been parked there for two days. Homicide investigators later said Rollins was shot several times.

Sanchez told investigators that he was angry that Rollins was telling people that Sanchez was homosexual and "he decided to do something about it."

In a taped confession, Sanchez told detectives that he invited Rollins over to smoke some marijuana. After sitting in the parking lot of an apartment complex, Sanchez said he pulled a gun and shot Lopez several times. He told police he went to his apartment, changed clothes, then drove Rollins' car to the cemetery and left.

According to the arrest report, Sanchez said that after the shooting, he threw the gun off the Mathews Bridge.

Sanchez was charged with murder and was being held without bond at the Duval County jail.
