Flagler County Finds Woman's Claimed Abduction 'Unfounded'

POSTED: Friday, September 26, 2008

Flagler County Sheriff's detectives said Friday they have determined that a Palm Coast woman's complaint that she was kidnapped, beaten and dumped in St. Augustine by a group of voodoo worshipers was unfounded.

Michelle Wood called 911 when she claimed she awoke early Monday in a field along U.S. 1 near St. Augustine.

Flagler County detectives said they closed the investigation partially because her claims were very similar to past reports that were deemed to have been fraudulent. Detectives also said that during questioning, there were too many inconsistent statements given by Wood and they were unable to find any creditable evidence to indicate a crime had occurred.

"Our investigation included consultations with cult experts which helped us in reaching this conclusion," said FCSO Major David O'Brien. "We also found no evidence of organized satanic worship in Flagler County."
