Killer Pleads Guilty To 2nd Murder, Rape
Total Sentence: 3 Life Terms Plus 975 Years

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two days after a jury found Jonathan Tave guilty of first-degree murder, Tave pleaded guilty to a second slaying and the sexual assault of a Duval County corrections officer.
On Monday a jury convicted Tave, 27, in the slaying of Cedric Henry during a carjacking attempt in January 2005. The judge immediately sentenced Tave to life in prison plus 225 years.
Wednesday morning in a courtroom filled with police officers, Tave pleaded guilty to murder in the September 2004 shooting death of Willie Tomblin and the repeated sexual assault of a female corrections officer in April.
Tomblin's mother, Shelia Tomblin, told Judge John Merrett that the loss of her only son was devastating.
"If I had my way, I could take care of Mr. Tave myself because he don't realize what he has done to me, my family, other people and even his own family," Tomblin said.
After Tomblin's emotional victim-impact statement, Merrett took a short break, then came back and announced his sentence: two additional life sentences plus 750 years -- all to be served consecutively.
"Mr. Tave, you were born a human being, but you chose to live like a beast and now you're going to die like a beast in a cage," Merrett said. "It is the sincere prayer of this court that you never walk the earth again."
By pleading guilty, Tave gave up his right to appeal. Late Wednesday, he was transferred to the custody of the Florida Department of Corrections.
