Daytona Robbery Suspect Arrested After 2-County Chase

A Daytona Beach man faces multiple charges from several law enforcement agencies after an attempted robbery and carjacking in Daytona Beach Shores ended in Flagler County Sunday afternoon.
Craig William Miles, 26, was being held in the Flagler County Inmate Facility on Monday in connection with the Sunday robbery attempt.
According to police reports, Miles attempted to rob a Daytona Beach Shores store earlier in the day, implying he had a weapon, and then car-jacked a 76-year-old gentleman in that city. He then fled north on A1A out of Volusia County, into Flagler Beach, where city police officers there attempted to stop them.
Flagler County sheriff's deputies joined in the pursuit, following the suspected robber as he traveled westbound on state Road 100 out of the city. Flagler and Volusia County helicopters were also involved in the pursuit.
Flagler sheriff's deputies and Bunnell police officers were preparing to use stop sticks on S.R. 100, when the suspect vehicle made a U-turn in the median near the courthouse complex. Miles' vehicle went into a spin and then was struck by a Flagler deputy's vehicle.
Sheriff's deputies had the man in custody by 2 p.m.
"This is a very dangerous man who put a lot of innocent people in jeopardy," said Flagler Sheriff Donald W. Fleming. "We are fortunate we were able to stop him before anyone was seriously hurt."
