ORLANDO, Fla. -- A sheriff's deputy who was spotted unconscious in a burning patrol vehicle was pulled from the flames and saved by a passer-by.
"It was freaky," Good Samaritan Bill McCreaney told WKMG-TV. "When you have an officer in a vehicle and he is non-responsive to getting out of the vehicle when someone is trying to get him out and you see fire coming out of the hood as high as it was."
The deputy injured in the crash was chasing a felony suspect when he collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and Central.
McCreaney was able to pulled the injured deputy to safety before the vehicle was overwhelmed by flames.
The officer was transported to a local hospital along with four other people. All of the victims were expected to survive.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
