DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- A Daytona Beach man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison after pleading guilty last month to DUI manslaughter charges.
Authorities said Brenton Black, 31, was driving a friend's sport utility vehicle in June 2007 with a suspended license and a blood alcohol content nearly twice the legal limit of .08. He collided with a pickup while driving through an intersection, and a woman who was riding in the truck died.
Prosecutors say Black had been convicted of driving with a suspended license eight times before the crash.
A Volusia County judge handed down Black's sentence on Wednesday. As part of his plea agreement, Black's punishment was capped at 50 years, but his attorneys had the right to argue for less time.
