UPDATED: 1:15 am EDT October 23, 2008

A SWAT team responded to a home on Mackinaw Street Wednesday evening after receiving a tip about two people being killed.

According to police, a man called officers and told them his son said he had killed both his girlfriend and his girlfriend's father.

Police responded to a home in the 1000 block of Mackinaw Street, and the street was temporarily shut down as a SWAT team moved in.

SWAT looked into the Mackinaw Street home, which the girlfriend and boyfriend shared, but said they did not find anything.

"The house on Mackinaw -- our SWAT team responded to make sure there were no victims in the house. There were not. We went through the house to just verify there were no other victims and the suspect was not located," said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Chief David Stevens.

Officers then went to another location and discovered two bodies, which they suspect might be that of the girlfriend and her father.

While investigators did not disclose the location where the two bodies were found, but they said the Mackinaw SWAT callout may be related to a second scene a few miles away on Miriam Street.

Shortly after 8 p.m., homicide detective were called to the 6400 block of Miriam Street.

Police said they had received a call earlier in the day of a possible homicide on the street, but they said when officers arrived at the scene they didn't know exactly where to look and began going from door to door knocking in search of answers.

"In doing so they did indeed verify that there had been a homicide that had occurred on the street. I'm not going to get into the details because obviously the evidence technicians are just getting to the location of the actual crime scene," said JSO Lt. Pat Ivey.

Police said the man who alerted them to the situation was being interviewed and was cooperating with detectives.

Police asked for the public's help finding 29-year-old Alonza Jones, who they said was a person of interest in the case. Jones is described as a black man who is possibly driving a white, 4-door, 1998 Chevrolet with tag number K412NH.

Anyone with information that could help detectives find Jones is asked to the sheriff's office at 904-630-0500.
