JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An election threat scribbled on the bathroom wall of First Coast High School promised violence if Sen. Barack Obama is elected president.
"If Obama is elected as president, the new KKK is going to blow up the school" -- the frightening words on the wall have some parents very upset.
"I take it seriously, especially with the high school right here with all the kids it's just going to be chaos," said parent Sherry Hyatt.
According to police documents, a teacher reported the threat after finding it written in a bathroom.
Hyatt said the disturbing message is just the most recent in a string of problems at First Coast. She said she has decided pull her son out of the school.
"There's a hit list going around, kids being stabbed, I mean the drugs coming on to school grounds. All of that kind of stuff. I'm through with it," Hyatt said.
"I'm not at that point because I feel that no matter what you do there's always going to be something somewhere. You can't get away from danger. I mean, it's going to be there," said parent Nichelle Maddox
She said she wishes the hateful words scribed on the school's wall weren't there or on her son's mind.
"I want him to come to school to get an education, but it's just sad that we have to go through these type of things and worry about these types of things when they're trying to get their education," Maddox said.
As Jacksonville police investigate whether the message is a legitimate threat, Maddox said she's staying faithful and hoping the words meant nothing more than to scare.
"You've just got evil people in this world and it's not going to change. It's always only going to be there. Like I said all you can do is pray about it and try to live your life and go on," Maddox said.
The school board spokeswoman said they definitely take the safety of its students serious, but she said the school board doesn't believe students are in danger. The school board is cooperating with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office investigation.
