Man Accused In $27,000 eBay Fraud

POSTED: Thursday, October 30, 2008

Police arrest a man accused of advertised products for sale on eBay and took money from buyers, but never delivered the goods.

Investigators said William Fortune, 27, pocketed $26,799 by swindling buyers using the online auction service.

Police said Fortune sold engines and transmissions under the name "24 Hour Auto." Detectives said Fortune either never had or never planned to deliver the items he sold online.

The case began when a California man who paid $3,250 for auto parts he never received filed a complaint with the White Collar Crime Center. Those investigators tracked 24 Hour Auto to Fortune and notified the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

After an investigation, Fortune was arrested and charged with organized fraud. Police also seized a laptop computer from Fortune's Mandarin home.
