Pilot Pulled From Water After Ultralight Flips
POSTED: Tuesday, November 4, 2008
VILANO BEACH, Fla. -- A St. Johns Fire-Rescue spokesman said an ultralight aircraft taking off on the Intracoastal Waterway just behind Guana River State Park flipped over and sank.
The unidentified pilot told Channel 4's Phil Whitely that a gust caught the wing as he was taking off and flipped the plane. A boater rescued the pilot, who was checked by paramedics at the scene.
The boater went back and towed the plane to shallow water.
St. Johns County sheriff's deputies have turned the investigation over to the Florida Highway Patrol.
