A 13-year-old Jacksonville boy found himself in a scary situation on Wednesday when he was attacked by a pit bull while playing outside.

The attack took place 1000 block of Shearwater Drive on the Northside, where Javarious Davis was at a friend's house play basketball when a pit bull came after him and bit him in the face.

"It was kind of like a nightmare, like Friday the 13th stuff. I was scared," Davis said.

Police said the 11-month-old pit bull escaped from a nearby fenced-in yard.

Davis said he tried to run when he saw the dog coming toward him, but he fell. That's when the 13-year-old said, "The dog just snapped on my face."

"I tried to get it off me, but I couldn’t. I didn't know that it had taken a bite out of my lip until I seen all the blood and I felt it," Davis said.

The teen lost part of his lower lip. He had to have several stitches on his face and a bandage to cover an area under his shoulder.

His aunt, Elunda Sanders, said she wants to know how the pit bull was able to get loose.

"It could have happened to anybody, but the way that you handle it and you're a pet owner and know that it's a pit bull anyway," said Sanders.

The dog's owner, David Blackmon, said he has never had a problem his dog in the past. He said he is just as surprised as everyone else.

"I feel bad. I mean, my dog attacked somebody else's child. Of course I feel bad," Blackmon said.

The pit bull was taken to Animal Control where it will be quarantined for 10 days before a decision is made about the dog's future.
