Man Shot To Death In NW Jax Cemetery

POSTED: Friday, November 7, 2008

Detectives were investigating the shooting death of a man in this 20s Friday afternoon inside Memorial Cemetery at the corner of Moncrief Road and Edgewood Avenue.

The body was found near the back of the cemetery by a person going to visit a family member's grave. Rescue was called, but paramedics said the man was already dead.

Police said they were not sure when the shooting occurred, but it did not appear the body had been there more than a few hours -- no more than a day.

"We believe we have the victim identified, but we have not made next of kin, so we're not going to release that yet," Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Shawn Coarsey said.
