Woman's Body Pulled From Ocean

VILANO BEACH, Fla. -- Fifteen hours after a woman disappeared in the ocean after a wedding reception in Vilano Beach, a body was recovered in the same area.
Just after midnight, 36-year-old Melissa Lee Lightsey was reported missing by her husband. She was last seen swimming in chest-deep water at Surfside Park.
According to Lightsey husband, the woman had been at a wedding reception in downtown St. Augustine on Saturday evening before the couple went to Surfside Park. He said she went into the water to swim.
After an extensive search Sunday, a boater found a woman's body just before 3 p.m.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said there was trauma to the body possibly caused by a passing boat.
"There's a lot of boats coming in and out of the inlet, so it's very likely a boat struck her," Sgt. Chuck Mulligan said. "We don't know if she drowned prior or what. We just don't know."
The body was taken to the medical examiner's office, where it identified as that of Lightsey. The medical examiner will also do an autopsy.
"We're not ruling anything in or out at this point. With every death we look at everything, and one of those large steps is the preliminary findings of the autopsy. We simply don't have those at this time," Mulligan said. "Of course the investigation is continuing, and we will pick up many parts of this tomorrow and continue moving it forward."
