A 19-year-old Lake City driver was charged with DUI manslaughter after a single-car wreck in Putnam County early Friday morning that killed one passenger and seriously injured another.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Nicholas Doty was driving toward Melrose on state Road 100 at high rate of speed at 1:50 a.m. when he lost control of the car, left the road, spun around and struck a tree.

Andrew Parrish, 19, of Florahome, was pronounced dead at the scene. Shelby Wagner, 17, was transported to Shands Medical Center in Gainesville with serious injuries.

According to the FHP report, alcohol was a factor in the wreck and Doty would be charged with DUI manslaughter and DUI causing serious injury.
