WILTON MANORS, Fla. -- Funeral services were held Monday for Amanda Collette, 15, who was shot and killed last Wednesday inside Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale.
Hundreds of people gathered Monday at for a funeral Mass at St. Clement Catholic Church, where Collette attended services and Sunday school.
Students, teachers and family members wiped away tears as they filed past Collette's pink and white flower-draped casket.
"Just looking at her, it looks like she's sleeping, and that peace that Amanda exuded throughout life is just radiating now," " said Kim Sutton, Collette's cousin. "I can't even cry anymore because I know Amanda is with God."
Collette's parents were surrounded by friends and family.
"We just hope kids look at this situation and understand it is a cruel world," said her father, Anthony Thompson.
Another 15-year-old student, Teah Wimberly, is charged with murder in the death of Collette.
The priest who led the service briefly referred to Wimberly as "the girl in jail." The priest said, "Forgive her. She did not understand the consequences of what she did."
