GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -

A 17-year-old was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Green Cove Springs on Sunday night, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Destiny Dyal was heading south in the 5700 block of U.S. Highway 17 South just after 9 p.m. when she suddenly drove her car off the roadway to the right, deputies said.

The car continued traveling off the pavement, along the grassy shoulder, and became airborne near a culvert, deputies said. They said it struck several trees in the wooded area east of the roadway.

Dyal was thrown from the car and died.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

Recent Sheriff's Office records indicate that Dyal was a cosmetology student at the American Academy of Cosmetology in Orange Park.
