Man Shot, Killed On Downtown Street

POSTED: Wednesday, November 19, 2008

A man shot several times Wednesday afternoon in broad daylight on a heavily traveled downtown street has died.

The victim -- a man in his early 20s -- was taken to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

Police believe both the victim and the gunman were on foot in the 1100 block of West Beaver street, across the street from Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church.

Traffic on West Beaver was diverted for several hours while homicide detectives and crime scene investigators gathered evidence.

Detectives said a woman witnessed the shooting but could not provide a good description of the gunman. Police are hoping that motorists passing through the area might have noticed something that could help them.

Anyone with information that could help police is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
