A North Carolina man was convicted Wednesday of attempted manslaughter in the shooting of a Palatka police officer during a traffic stop in March.
Paul Savage was accused of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, but the jury found him guilty of the lesser charge.
Cpl. Pete Ruiz was heading to an off-duty job the evening of March 29 when he spotted a vehicle being driven erratically on state Road 17 and stopped Savage on suspicion of drunken driving. As Ruiz approached the car, he was shot in the shoulder.
Savage faces up to 15 years in prison. He will be sentenced next month.
