Deputies: Mother, Son Killed In Murder-Suicide

POSTED: Friday, January 2, 2009
UPDATED: 11:19 am EST January 2, 2009

A mother and son are dead after an apparent murder suicide Tuesday evening.

Nancy Ann Calhoun, 64, and Jimmy Trueluck, 36, were found shot in their Newberry home by a family member.

Calhoun's brother-in-law said he went to the house to check on them when they missed an online family bingo game and didn't pick up the phone.

Trueluck's body was on the kitchen floor and Calhoun was slumped over in her chair at the table with her laptop. Trueluck was pronounced dead at the scene. Calhoun was flown to Shands Medical Center in Gainesville, where she died on Thursday.

Investigators said a .25-caliber handgun was found under Trueluck's body.

Sheriff's deputies believe Trueluck shot and killed his mother, then turned the gun on himself. Authorities said there was no history of violence or mental illness in the family.

"We do believe that the incident is isolated. We're not currently seeking any other suspects regarding the incident," Alachua County Sheriff's Office Detective Chris Sims told WCJB-TV. "Unfortunately, no one has been able to give us any understanding as to why an incident like this may have happened."

Trueluck had been living with his mother for the past two years taking care of her because she had limited mobility.

Deputies are still trying to determine a motive.
