Child Porn Fugitive May Be Hiding On Sailboat

POSTED: Friday, January 2, 2009
UPDATED: 5:04 pm EST January 2, 2009

A central Florida photographer wanted on suspicion of child pornography may be hiding out on the water.

Flagler County deputies said Alton Smith Jr., 46, may be on a sailboat on the Intracoastal Waterway or board.

Investigators said they discovered hundreds of images and videos at his family's Palm Coast home while looking into claims that Smith's 25-year-old daughter was operating a prostitution ring.

Deputies said they believe most of the photos and videos were taken at Alton Smith's photography studio, which was called Hot Shots A1A. The studio closed about 18 months ago.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office released this photo of the sailboat they believe Alton Smith Jr. may be on board.
Smith's wife, Tina, was arrested Tuesday after a search of the family home turned up disks full of photos and videos investigators call pornographic. They said some of the photos show Smith engaged in sex acts with children.

Investigators are urging parents who used the studio to call authorities if they think their children may have been victimized.

Smith's daughter, who is not being named because investigators said she may also be a victim of her parents' pornographic activities, was arrested Friday and charged with child neglect for not having her daughter attend school.

Anyone who knows Alton Smith's whereabouts or thinks their child might have been victimized by the couple is asked to call Flagler County Crimestoppers at 888-277-TIPS.
