MIDDLEBURG, Fla. -- A man wanted in connection with the slaying of three people in Ohio has now been extradited back to that state.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office arrested 47-year-old Paul Balmer on Dec. 28, on an active warrant out of Scioto County, Ohio. He was wanted for drug trafficking, and wanted for questioning in a triple homicide. Clay County investigators said Balmer did not fight extradition after his arrest. On Jan. 2, Ohio authorities took him back to their jurisdiction.
Clay County investigators arrested Balmer after receiving a tip that he might be in the area. Deputies with a description of Balmer's vehicle -- a Toyota Rav 4 with Ohio tags -- patrolled the area, spotted the car and stopped a man leaving a home on Alberta Court who they believed was Balmer.
Authorities in Ohio brought Balmer back to face charges in the shooting deaths of Ed Mollett, 46, his wife, Juanita Mollett, 43, and daughter, 20-year-old Christina Mollett. Investigators say their bodies were found on Dec. 22. Balmer's live-in girlfriend, Kara Garvin, 29, turned herself in to sheriff's detectives several hours after the shooting. She was charged with three counts of aggravated murder.
Balmer does not face any charges in Clay County.
