Police Say Driver Was Traveling At High Rate Of Speed

POSTED: 2:20 p.m. EST December 26, 2002

Two teenagers died and two were injured when their car lost control on Commonwealth Avenue in northwest Jacksonville and slammed into a tree.

Justin Bass, 18, who was driving a Ford car, and Angie Leroy, 16, who was the front-seat passenger both died at the scene of the accident. Corey Leroy, 18, and David Ezekiel, 20, were treated at Shands and released.

Police say Bass was driving at a high rate of speed east on Commonwealth when he went into the westbound lane to pass two cars, came around a bend and saw an oncoming car. Bass lost control, went into a skid and slammed into a tree.
