Jacksonville Rings In Year Of Ox

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Hundreds gathered at the University of North Florida on Sunday to celebrate Chinese New Year.
To ring in the Year of the Ox, traditional Chinese cuisine was served, followed by a lion dance, believed to bring a prosperous New Year to all in attendance.
After the lion dance, members of the Jacksonville Chinese Association and their guests spent the rest of the afternoon in UNF's Robinson Theatre for performances of music, dancing and skits.
The Ox year is one of 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac, and considered one of the best signs.
"Actually it is a favorite years for the Chinese people because the nature of the ox: that work ethic and brave spirit," said Cheng Mei Rothschild, who teaches Chinese language at The Bolles School.
