Fort White Man Killed In Single-Car Wreck

POSTED: Monday, March 2, 2009
UPDATED: 9:33 am EST March 2, 2009

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a single-car crash in Columbia County Sunday afternoon that killed a 47-year-old man.

Troopers said Allen Brooks, of Fort White, was headed south on Tustenugee Road, just over one mile east of county Road 18, about 2:10 p.m. when he apparently lost control of his Nissan sedan. The car left the road, went through a fence and overturned several times before striking two trees.

According to the FHP report, Brooks was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Columbia County paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Troopers said physical evidence indicated Brooks was exceeding the speed limit.
