JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A driver and passenger were hurt Thursday afternoon when a car slammed into a tree in the 4600 block of Park Street.
Firefighters called to the scene about 2:15 p.m. had to cut the vehicle's roof open to get the victims out of the car.
The names and conditions of the two people hurt were not released, but police said their injuries were not life-threatening.
A second passenger who was not hurt in the wreck told Channel 4 that he was asleep and jolted awake in the crash. He said he was thankful to be alive.
Police said the driver of the car might have had some sort of medical condition that caused him to veer off the road.
Park Street was closed for more than an hour while the accident was investigated and cleared.
The wreck took place in front of the cooperate office of a car collision repair shop, where some employees said the curve is a pretty dangerous stretch of road. They said in the last year and a half that the office has been open they've seen at least six different drivers fail to navigate the curve and hit trees or barrel into the office parking lot.
The cause of Thursday's crash remains under investigation.
