NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – An 18-year-old from Callahan was killed Tuesday night while making a left turn in front of an oncoming tractor-trailer, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said Caleb Bennett was driving a Toyota Corolla south on U.S. 1 near the Nassau-Duval county border just after 10 p.m. and attempted to turn left onto Roy Booth Road. According to the FHP report, a northbound big rig driven by Jesse Keeble, of Jackson's Gap, Alabama, was unable to stop for the turning car and struck the right side of the Carolla, sending it into a concrete light pole.
