25-Year-Old Officer Suffers Non-Life-Threatening Injuries

The body of a man believed to be in his 20s was found inside a Volusia County bar, and the death is likely connected to an earlier shooting of an Orange City police officer, sheriff's officials said.

The body was found inside Dixie's Pub in Deltona, which is owned by Bryan Randolph Langford, the man suspected of shooting the officer. The death appears to be a homicide, and the man likely died from a gunshot wound, sheriff's officials told WKMG-TV.

Orange City police Officer Sheriff El-shami, 25, was shot in the face during the earlier shooting while responding to a home near East University Avenue between U.S. Highway 17-92 and Interstate 4. Authorities were searching for the gunman, who may be suicidal, police said.

Volusia County sheriff's deputies said Langford, 38, may be holed up inside the home. A SWAT team has surrounded the house, but there has been no communication with anyone inside the home, sheriff's officials said.

Earlier, authorities said they were searching for a man wearing camouflage driving a white pickup, possibly a Chevrolet.

A neighbor said Langford has an arseanl of weapons.

According to police, Langford on Wednesday morning visited a Lake Helen farmer's market, where his ex-wife works, and made a suicidal remark.

"He said, 'This is the end,' basically," Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson said.

Langford's ex-wife contacted authorities, and deputies were sent to Langford's home. Orange City police officers also responded to the home as backup but arrived first, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

At least four shots were fired, and El-shami was struck in the face, deputies said.

El-shami told dispatchers, "I've been hit, I've been hit," and another Orange City officer took El-shami to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. He was later transferred to the trauma unit at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.

Roadways remain closed in the area.

Orange City Elementary School, which is located nearby, was placed on lockdown during the incident.
