Lake City Cop Charged With DUI After Fatal Crash
Arrest Stems From Off-Duty Motorcycle Accident From November
The Florida Highway Patrol said that Misty Gable (pictured, right) was off-duty and riding motorcycles with her friend Anthony Cericola of Daytona Beach when the accident occurred.
Investigators said she slowed to make a turn and he rear-ended her motorcycle. Both riders were thrown, but Cericola sustained critical injuries. He died later at Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center.
He was not wearing a helmet.
Authorities said that a blood alcohol test conducted shortly after the wreck showed Gable had blood-alcohol content of 0.132. The legal limit in Florida is 0.08.
Gable was issued a citation for DUI on Nov. 10, the date of the wreck. Gable, who has been working for the Lake City Police Department since 2001, was placed on administrative reassignment at the police resource center following the wreck.
The FHP reported that a second motorist, Kelly McKeithen of Lake City, hit the injured Cericola while he was lying in the road. Investigators said McKeithen did not stop and was identified later.
He has not been charged, but could face a third-degree felony charge for leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injury or death.
Gable could pay up to a $500 fine and face six months in jail.Copyright 2003 by News4Jax.com. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
