Woman Dies In Fall From Daytona Hotel

POSTED: Wednesday, April 29, 2009

A Palm Coast woman plunged to her death from a ninth-floor balcony of a Daytona Beach hotel, police said.

The incident happened Tuesday morning at the Best Western LaPlaya Resort & Suites at 2500 N. Atlantic Ave. Police have ruled out foul play, but they're still investigating the death.

The woman, identified as 50-year-old Maria Margarete Sohn, had been staying at the hotel since April 19. Emergency medical workers were called to the hotel just before 10 a.m.

She was found on a concrete gazebo area next to the hotel's pool deck. Paramedics attempted CPR but were unable to revive her.

The death marks the second fatal balcony fall at the hotel this year and the third in Daytona Beach in 2009.
