Driver Dies When Pickup Hits Semi

The driver of a pickup truck died Monday afternoon when he hit a semi in Crescent City, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Police said the two vehicles were northbound on US-17 when the semi slowed down. The driver of the pickup truck, driven by Carlos Otero, 66, of Crescent City, failed to see the semi slow down and rearended it, according to the crash report.

The semi was being driven by Jerry Lee, 53, of Flint, Mich. The crash sent Otero's truck into a utility pole.

Both drivers were transported to Putnam Community Medical Center. Otero died of his injuries. Lee had minor injuries.

The crash is under investigation by the FHP.
