Man Owing $188K In Alimony Arrested

Deputies Say Ex-Husband Hadn't Paid In 5 Years

A man who stopped paying alimony payments to his Clay County ex-wife five years ago and moved to Indonesia -- out of the reach of law enforcement -- was arrested Friday when he returned to town for a wedding.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office said David Evans owes his wife $188,000 in alimony payments.

Detectives said they got a tip that Evans would be attending a wedding in Jacksonville this weekend. They staked out the place at which he was expected and made the arrest just after noon Friday.

Evans, 46, was booked into the Duval County Jail and then transferred to the Clay County Jail.

Deputies said that because Evans had a history of evading arrest and because of the amount owed, he was ordered held without bond.
