JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A worker at private company on Blount Island was struck and killed about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday by a truck dolly that was backing up.
A truck dolly is used to move trailers around the property at the port.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's traffic homicide investigators were called to Tico Terminal Systems, property leased from the Jacksonville Port Authority.
Police said the victim, 63-year-old Alan W. Karr, was an employee of Tico.
Detectives said they will investigate even though there's not reason to believe it was anything other than an accident.
"There are fatalities that occur periodically in an industrial environment," said JSO Lt. Andy Morgan. "You have are all kinds of safety procedures in place to keep things from happening, but, unfortunately, accidents do happen."
