JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Delonna Hartley brought her daughter to Evergreen Cemetery to visit where her parents were laid to rest over the weekend. They were no more than 100 feet away from their car, when someone broke in to the car.
"The window got busted," Hartley said. "Whoever did it saw us pull in and walk away from our vehicle."
Hartley said she wouldn't care so much if they didn't take such personal items.
"Three purses, a camcorder, my daughter's strawberry shortcake backpack," said Hartley. "On the camcorder is her first trip to Walt Disney, her first ballet recital that I never downloaded."
Her daughter Hannah was also devastated because they stole from her too.
"I'm just not happy with them," Hannah Hartley said. "They busted the window and stole my backpack and stole my game."
Hartley said she was bothered that she is planning on moving her family's remains closer to where she lives in Tallahassee.
"I'm seriously contemplating taking them where I live," said Hartley. "Taking them to a funeral home that is perhaps a bit more secure because it just, I don't want to come back."
Hartley said her family owns six plots at Evergreen Cementary. Two of the plots have not been filled. She said the two will likely be on Craigslist in a couple days.
"(We) drove here to pay our respects, and it took away from that, to mourn my mother and have to go back and deal with this is just, it's unfathomable," said Hartley. "Of all the places to break into a vehicle, at a cemetery is just the lowest."
